Profound's AEO Content Score is a metric that predicts how likely a page is to become a top-cited source in AI search. Profound says the score comes from a proprietary machine learning model trained on millions of top-cited pages, and it powers the platform's Content Optimization feature.
What the score looks at
Profound lists these signals among the hundreds the model evaluates:
- Semantic alignment between the page and the prompts you want to rank for
- Structured data usage
- Content structure, such as heading density and paragraph balance
- Query fan-out patterns
- Recency and freshness
The score updates as you edit, and the feature pairs it with recommendations drawn from the pages answer engines currently cite in your category.
ChatGPT Shopping tracking
Profound also tracks how products appear when ChatGPT shows shopping results: placement trends over time, and the prompts that trigger shopping tiles in a category. That matters mainly to ecommerce brands, where a general brand-mention count says little about whether a specific product is shown.
How to read the score
It is a proprietary metric from a vendor. Use it as a directional guide for editing, and judge it by whether pages you improve go on to earn citations.
Our Profound review covers pricing and the rest of the platform. For basic monitoring on a small budget, OtterlyAI is the lower-cost option on our list.
